My Journey – Unveiled

Today saw the first unveiling of the triptych. It was such a lovely event. As the work was unveiled a very strong ‘Ooh’ echoed around the room. Everyone seemed to be delighted with how the work had developed and it was great to be able to talk with people about their responses to the workContinue reading “My Journey – Unveiled”

My Journey – Journey’s End

That’s it. I have stitched my last stitch, ends tied in, loose threads trimmed. Photos taken. All of a sudden it’s done…and I feel quite bereft. (Then I remember the aching arms and the workroom that really needs tidying.) My last job is to take it to the framer’s tomorrow. Anxious thoughts..will it stretch wellContinue reading “My Journey – Journey’s End”

My Journey – some final details

Oops more casualties!! Good job I got all those extra needles delivered – I haven’t quite got through them all today but the soil in the garden  section was definitely in need of some fine raking! I said I was going to only let you see small sections now until its all complete – but I thoughtContinue reading “My Journey – some final details”

Acres of blue sky…

It was such a lovely morning today, so before starting to stitch I went for a walk with a friend in the sunshine (observing blue sky for research😊) Lots of chat, fresh air, exercise and a cappuccino set me up nicely for a day in the attic – and we saw one of these tooContinue reading “Acres of blue sky…”

My Journey – storm clouds gathering!

This is the first panel of the triptych under the needle! This is an upside down view of the storm clouds at the very edge of the piece. It has been great to finally start stitching – definitely prefer this to all that measuring and crawling around on the floor! To create the image, IContinue reading “My Journey – storm clouds gathering!”

Trace it and then trace it and trace it again..

Preparing any project is time consuming and I’m continually reminded of the adage ‘measure twice, cut once’ as I scale up the design for the triptych. It’s a 500% increase to get it to the right size, so there’s definitely lots of measuring going on! I scale up the design so that each piece isContinue reading “Trace it and then trace it and trace it again..”

My Journey continues

Well, that was a busy month of workshops. There is now a huge stash of gorgeously coloured fabric in my work room, awaiting transformation into the triptych for the church. The Lab Youth Group got to try fabric painting. The aim was the same as for the spiral dyeing workshops – using colour to representContinue reading “My Journey continues”

My Journey

The project continues… This week has seen more dyeing workshops for groups at Heaton Baptist Church. Spiral dyeing is such a great activity, a quick way to achieve exciting colour patterns and effects. It’s been interesting to hear people’s ideas as they’ve added the colour, thinking about family, the energy of toddlers and so on.Continue reading “My Journey”

My Journey

A participatory community art project for the weekday users of the Heaton Baptist Church Life Centre. And so it begins – with two trolley loads of materials! This project aims to build stronger connections with the adults and young people who attend groups at the Centre on Mondays to Saturdays. My role will be to engageContinue reading “My Journey”

Needle Felting again!

Another introduction to needle felting  – with a bigger group this time! The trick with needle felting is to get the stabbing action correct. Keep the needle straight or else it’s all to easy to snap the shaft. And remember – the foam block is for protection, the needle should only just go into theContinue reading “Needle Felting again!”
