Autumn Comes Calling

IMG_1695

Remember this piece from the start of the week? Its undergone some development and now just needs a few hand stitches before being fixed into the box frame I’ve chosen for it.

I’ve tried to capture that moment where Summer turns quietly into Autumn, the days are still bright but suddenly the colours are changing to gold and flame.

So here it is now, not the best photo – taken with iPhone as, of course, the camera battery needs recharging! Better pictures to follow!

Autumn Comes Calling

I’ve used hand coloured fabrics and vintage lace, embellished with machine stitch and hand stitch. The Autumn leaves on the trees are seed stitch. Grasses are running stitches done in Oliver Twists varigated threads. I’ll do some proper photos before it goes into my Etsy shop – promise! And I’ll take it to the Station Steamer in Newcastle on November 6th.

I am a professional textile artist specializing in Appliqué and Free Motion machine stitching. In order to create a unique colour palette, I hand dye my own fabrics and then use these to create the landscapes and coastal scenes recorded in my sketchbook. I often incorporate recycled or vintage fabrics in my work - they add meaning to the story the work is telling. I love being so close to the Northumbrian coast and countryside and I especially like taking time walk and draw these stunning landscapes
